Does KeepItSafe support file versioning? How do I restore a file?
KeepItSafe absolutely supports file versioning. We have a flexible retention policy that can be adjusted as necessary, from days to months to years. Files that have been previously deleted or older versions of files can be restored in a matter of minutes. You set the retention period for as long as you choose to store the file. Our system allows files and databases to be rolled back to a previous point in time when they were known to be working.

What is the difference between tape and online backup?
There are a few major differences between tape and online backup. At the center of a tape backup system lurks the potential for human error. When an employee accidentally deletes an important file from the server, forgets to back up the day's data, or fails to transfer the tape off-site for safekeeping, your business continuity is put at serious risk. And eventually something bad will happen. Additionally, tape is a 30-year-old technology that is unreliable, easily damaged, and deteriorates after six months.
An automatically-scheduled online backup eliminates the potential for human error while promoting faster and timelier disaster recovery with less data loss. Online backup stores your data off-site in multiple data centers, offers multiple retention periods, encrypts all files, and, unlike tape, carries no upfront or ongoing costs. In short, online backup is ultimately more reliable than tape backup.
How do I install KeepItSafe Online Backup?
KeepItSafe engineers and/or customer-service representatives (CSRs) install and configure service at your site. We will install the product on your machine(s), and configure the technology to suit your set-up.
Can I back up more than once a day?
Yes. You can set KeepItSafe to back up as often as you wish.
Will KeepItSafe Online Backup use much of my computer's resources?
We will install the product on your machine(s) and set the technology to run. After the initial backup, data is deduplicated so that only new or changed data is then backed up. So KeepItSafe uses minimal broadband resources and very little CPU speed. Typical backups take 2-3 minutes each day.
Do I need to buy more hardware to use KeepItSafe Online Backup?
No, all you need is a computer or server, and broadband access. We will install the product onto your machine(s) and set the technology to run. There is no additional hardware needed.
How do I know my data is being backed up?
Our technical staff monitors and manages the entire backup process. If a backup fails, is missed, or there is any unusual activity, we alert you (if necessary) and solve the situation. You can also log-in to your KeepItSafe account and view a history of each day's backup report to verify that the service is working.
How can you guarantee data security?
Before your data is taken off-site, they're encrypted to 256-bit level. This level of security equals or exceeds that used by most financial institutions. Once this is done, your data is unreadable by anyone. The client alone holds the decryption key, and is the only one who can decode the information. The data are then sent via a secure network to our data centre and are always stored in encrypted format on our platform.
What is encryption? How does it secure my data?
Encryption translates data into a secret code, the most effective way to secure data. To read the data you must have a decryption key or password. No one but you has access to the code, not even KeepItSafe technical staff.
What happens if I lose my encryption key?
The code is stored only by the client. If this code is lost or misplaced, all of the data stored in the data center are lost. So make sure that the encryption key you use is memorable.
How long will an online backup take?
The initial backup of your data can take days. If you need to upload a large amount of data we will send out a drive for an initial seed-load to speed the set-up process. The backup is scheduled at a time that suits you and your staff and involves no interruption to your office. Once this initial backup is complete, each subsequent backup is done on an incremental basis. This means that prior to each backup taking place, your data is analyzed and only the data that has changed or been updated will be backed up. This makes the process faster and smoother for the end user.
Where are my data backed up?
Online data backups are fully - and automatically - stored, managed, and monitored in secure, off-site data centres (i.e., primary centres, then mirrored to secondary centres), by specially-trained KeepItSafe engineers on call specifically for your company.
